You might or might not know that there are quite a few variants of Mahjong one can learn. We teach the three main styles – American, Chinese and Japanese.
How to decide which variants you want to learn? It’s easy! Ask yourself who you will be playing with? What styles do they play?
In general, we have learners from America and Canada learning American style with us, and we also have London clients in their very exclusive circles learning American style. Otherwise, Chinese classic Mahjong is the most well-known and widely played. If you were to find yourself sitting at a table in Asia or Europe, knowing the basics of Chinese classic will likely allow you to play while adapting to the specific variants or house rules of that table. Japanese Riichi can be seen as a variant of classic Chinese, but it is much harder to pick up Riichi as a beginner compared to Chinese classic.
