We are happy to hear from you as long as you know what is Mahjong!

Hi! how can we help you?

Some common questions we got asked

Our team is more than happy to answer relevant questions you have. If you are visiting this page, we know you really want to get in touch, fill in the form and send us your message.

Yes, we are, actually! We are a language school at first, then we taught our students how to play Mahjong in our own way. Now we offer two levels of Mahjong workshops to everyone, and you can find all upcoming dates on our BOOK TICKETS page.

All tickets are sold via Eventbrite, but you can also find our listings on ClassBento and our Meetup group. We charge the workshops similarly to our language classes. Your learning success from our workshops are guaranteed. No frustrations, just fun and good vibes.

Yes, except for that we only open for Just Play on Saturdays, and that we don’t charge any membership fees.
Instead, we sell individual tickets for both beginners and experienced players.
Our events take place at Aldgate Tower in Central London E1, with a cosy setup, free tea & coffee, and occasional festive treats.

We can teach all styles!

However, Our Newbie Workshop teaches Chinese classic Mahjong —tile recognition, sets, and basic rules—that apply to many of the Mahjong styles you might heard of except Japanese or American. In the Improver Workshop, we teach Hong Kong rules (the most common style in and outside of China) helping you play confidently with the majority of players across the UK these days.

We can also offer Riichi (Japanese) Mahjong and American Mahjong lessons, currently available through private sessions only. For different styles of Mahjong, we wrote about them in our post here.

Most of our learners start with the Chinese classic Mahjong as beginners. When you’re ready to play for scores, we use Hong Kong Mahjong rules, which many find easier to understand and win with. If you’re familiar with other Chinese Mahjong styles, you’ll also find it simple to adapt to the Hong Kong style.

From 2026, we also offer tables for Riichi players and American Mahjong! Although these Just Play means you will have to know how to play already to sit at the table. If you want to learn either of them, contact us.

We aim to grow an inclusive Mahjong community for all styles and players.

As a school, each Mahjong session we host comes with real costs – including staff time, venue hire, energy bill, admin cost, and VAT on every ticket sold. We’re not a community center running with volunteers; we run these sessions because we genuinely have something to offer for Mahjong learners and players.

Lately, we’ve been thinking hard about how to keep things affordable while still covering our costs. It’s been heartwarming to see many of you coming back week after week – we truly value that sense of connection. To support this growing community, we’re looking at lowering the price of Just Play tickets and shifting them to a different time slot from the Newbie workshops. That way, we can better accommodate everyone and keep the space welcoming and relaxed for all. Please bear with us.

Yes we do! And we do quite a lot of these lessons. Our base rate is £300 for 2 hours, which includes:

  • One instructor
  • One Mahjong set
  • Travel within Zone 2
  • Can take care of 1-8 players per session

For bookings beyond Zone 2 or for longer sessions, we offer half-day and full-day rates. Just get in touch for a quote!

We’ve explained our pricing to interested parties: simply, we don’t have the capacity to send trained instructors across London, so private home workshops are offered at a premium rate and can’t be discounted.

We are curious already…
